Emeril Lagasse: Breakfast in Bed Contest
May 5, 2004 -- Emeril Lagasse fans wait for this celebrated contest each year. It's their chance to tell Emeril their own story about a personal hero who they believe deserves breakfast in bed.

OFFICIAL RULESEMERIL'S BREAKFAST IN BED CONTEST NO PURCHASE NECESSARY
Void outside of the U.S., or where prohibited by law.
Contest Entry: The contest begins 3/12/04 and all entries must be received by 12:00 p.m. ET 4/19/04. The deadline has expired. Submit a photo and an essay, not to exceed 50 words in length, explaining why a mom you are nominating ("Nominee") deserves to receive "Emeril's Breakfast in Bed," which consists of a visit and breakfast prepared by Chef Emeril Lagasse in the winner's home. Entrants may include a photo of the mom being nominated, however, photo submission is optional and entries will not be judged based on the photo. Entries submitted with inappropriate or offensive photos will be disqualified.
There are two ways to enter: Online entry: You can e-mail your essay via the Good Morning America Web page at ABCNEWS.com; or Mail-in Entry: put your name, address and telephone number on the essay; these will not count toward your 50-word limit. Photo(s) must be secured to the entrant's essay and entrant's and nominee's names must be written legibly on the back of the photo(s). Any photo(s) submitted via mail-in entry become the property of Sponsors and will not be returned. Mail your entry to: Emeril's Breakfast in Bed, P.O. Entries made electronically will be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the submitting e-mail address. "Authorized Account Holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.
Entries must be received by 12:00 p.m. ET on April 19, 2004, when the contest ends. Limit one (1) entry per Nominee. Entries submitted by means other than online or mail-in will not be considered. Essays that exceed 50 words will be disqualified, as will any entries containing profanity or language inappropriate for morning television. All entries, including photos, become the property of Sponsors and will not be acknowledged or returned.
Eligibility: Contest is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and Washington, D.C. who are 21 years of age or older as of April 19, 2004. You do not need to be a mother to nominate but do need to be a mother to win. Any individuals (including but not limited to employees, consultants, independent contractors, and interns) who have, within the past six months, performed services for American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. ("ABC, Inc."), Florida Department of Citrus ("FDOC"), any organizations responsible for sponsoring, fulfilling, administering, advertising or promoting the contest or supplying the prize, and/or their respective parent, subsidiary, affiliated and successor companies, and immediate family and household members of such individuals, are not eligible to enter. "Immediate family members" shall mean parents, stepparents, children, stepchildren, siblings, or spouses. "Household members" shall mean people who share the same residence at least three months a year. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
Prize: One (1) grand prize will be awarded to Nominee featured in the winning essay, consisting of a visit from Chef Emeril Lagasse to winner's home to prepare and serve breakfast in bed to the Winner in a live segment broadcast nationally on ABC's Good Morning America on May 7, 2004. All broadcasts will not air live but the segment will be shot to air live in the Eastern Standard time zone. Winner must agree to be home for the above visit or prize will be forfeited without further compensation and an alternate winner will be selected based on the same criteria described below. Selection of visit date is at Sponsors' discretion but must occur by May 30, 2004 (Approximate Retail Value of prize is $500). All other expenses not specified are the responsibility of winner. If for any reason the celebrity portion of the prize may not be fulfilled, Sponsors and their agents shall have no further obligations other than to deliver the remainder of the prize. Prize must be accepted as awarded. All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the Winner.
Selection of Winner/Validation: One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be selected on or about 4/27/04 based on the following criteria: quality of reasons explained in essay why contestant deserves breakfast in bed by Emeril (50%); and overall potential of contestant's essay for on-air appeal to Good Morning America's audience (50%). The Official Judging Panel will be comprised of staff members of Good Morning America. Entrants agree to be bound by these rules and all decisions of the Official Judging Panel, whose decisions are final and binding on all aspects of the Contest. No inquiries about entries will be answered. Potential winner will be notified by telephone and/or mail on or about 4/27/04 and will be required to sign and return within three (3) business days affidavits of eligibility and releases covering eligibility, liability, advertising, publicity and media appearance issues, unless prohibited by law. Failure to return any such forms within the specified time period may result in disqualification. Entries are void if incomplete or if they contain errors. Odds of winning depend on the number of valid entries received.
Limitations, Releases, Miscellaneous: Sponsors are not responsible for lost, late, stolen, misdirected, altered, mutilated, destroyed, illegible, technically corrupted or postage-due entries. Sponsors are not responsible for failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to electronic malfunction or damage of any network, hardware or software. If for any reason the contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or other causes beyond sponsor's control that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the contest, sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest. No responsibility is assumed for: any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; or any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or electronic entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web-site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials from this contest.
ABC, Inc. reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and to cancel, terminate, modify and/or suspend the contest in the event of tampering. In consideration for the opportunity to take part in this promotion and to compete for any prize, contestants agree that: all written entry materials must be the original work of the contestants and may not include any material that belongs to third parties or that has been previously broadcast or published; all entry materials become the property of the sponsor, ABC, Inc., New York, NY, including but not limited to the copyright worldwide in the essays and the copyright in any submitted picture, and ABC, Inc. may broadcast, publish, copy, edit, modify and otherwise use or not use any written entry materials for any purpose any way it chooses without additional compensation to contestants.
By entering, and if a winner, each contestant grants ABC, Inc. and the producers of Good Morning America the right to use winner's name, voice, likeness and performance, as well as the winning entry (including any picture) and audio, video or still pictures of the winner's residence, and family taken during Emeril's visit at winner's residence and the taping of the show, in connection with any television program or other production as it may be broadcast, distributed or exhibited in any and all media throughout the world in perpetuity and in advertising and publicizing thereof. However, neither ABC, Inc. nor the producers of Good Morning America shall have any obligation to film, use or air any contestant's performance. Such use shall be in Sponsors' sole discretion and participants acknowledge that due to scheduling, writing, editing or other production reasons, some or all of this material may not appear on air. No substitution, transfer or cash redemption of prizes except with Sponsors' permission or where required by law. By entering, contestants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless American Broadcasting Companies, Inc., Florida Department of Citrus, their parent, subsidiary and affiliated companies, advertising and promotional agencies and prize suppliers and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents and representatives from any and all claims and damages arising out of contestant's participation in the contest and/or acceptance, use or misuse of any prize, and any claims based on rights of publicity, rights of privacy or copyright infringement. By entering this contest, contestants also grant permission to Sponsors to use their name, photograph, likeness, voice, prize information and/or biographical information (city and state only) for programming, publicity and promotional purposes without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
