Amy Schumer Responds After Curvy Model Calls Her Out for Not Wanting to Be Labeled Plus Size
— -- Curvy model Ashley Graham is criticizing Amy Schumer after the comedienne was upset that Glamour magazine implied she was plus size. And Schumer has responded.
"I can see both sides, but Amy talks about being a big girl in the industry," Graham told Cosmopolitan magazine, which put her on the cover for its August issue. "You thrive on being a big girl, but when you're grouped in with us, you're not happy about it? That, to me, felt like a double standard."
If you're scratching your head, wondering where Graham's commentary came from, let's go back for a second.
Schumer, 35, sounded off in April about being named on a Glamour cover for a special issue of the magazine with the cover line "Chic at any size." She was listed along with Graham (the cover model for the issue as well), Melissa McCarthy and Adele under the line "Women who inspire us."
"@glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn't feel right to me," she wrote in part on Instagram. "Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size? What are your thoughts? Mine are not cool glamour not glamourous."
The 28-year-old Graham, who wears a size 14, should understand. The Sports Illustrated model doesn't refer to herself as plus size either. In the Cosmo interview, she explained why.
"Just because I'm not calling myself plus size doesn't mean I'm not representing a woman who is," she said. "I'm giving curvy women a seat at a table that we've never been invited to before — a table with high-end fashion people who have never considered us beautiful."
Schumer took to Twitter immediately after the interview hit the internet, taking the high road.
