Trista Sutter revealed that her husband, Ryan, is battling an unidentified illness.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, the former "Bachelorette" star said their family has been trying to "get answers" on Ryan's medical diagnosis for several months.

"This guy ... my rock, my best friend, my hero, my love ... is struggling," she wrote alongside a photo of Ryan. "Not everyday, and not to the point that he can’t work or cook or exercise or be with family, but enough."

She did not expand on his symptoms or current condition. Although medical professionals haven't been able to diagnose Ryan, Trista did say they recently found out it is not cancer.

She said finding out her husband does not have cancer was, "A HUGE relief...without a doubt, especially after fighting to find a doctor to take symptoms that lined up with lymphoma seriously and advocating for the scans to rule it out."

However, she said their family still experienced complicated emotions upon receiving that news. "Part of us was wanting a diagnosis," she wrote. "Wanting to be able to fight for him to be cured instead of fighting for an answer."

She acknowledged that she realizes that logic is "messed up," but emphasized that they are "in a holding pattern of not knowing."

Following her revelation about Ryan's medical struggles, she wrote about how she still has so much to be thankful for.

"I know it could be worse, so for that, I am thankful," she wrote. "Thankful to not have to be separated from a loved one who is dying due to COVID. Thankful to not have 2 children with a cancer diagnosis. Thankful to have each other and health insurance and jobs and a home and food on the table and healthy family members and all the things that make this life struggle-free."

Trista then asked her followers to always remember to consider what people are going through, whether they choose to reveal it or not. She also asked for prayers and good thoughts for her husband's health.

"We lived a fairy tale on TV and have a great life for all intents and purposes, but answers would be nice," she wrote.

Ryan also shared a photo with his wife on Sunday, which he captioned, "All we need is love...#thankyou 😘❤️"

The couple met on season one of "The Bachelorette," which aired in 2003, and married that same year. They have two children: a son, Maxwell Alston, 13, and a daughter, Blakesley Grace, 11.
