Warner Bros. Pictures debuted an action-packed trailer for its upcoming DC Comics movie "Blue Beetle" on Monday.

The film stars "Cobra Kai" actor Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes, who becomes the titular superhero.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," the film's official synopsis begins. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny...," it continues.

The trailer shows that Jaime's transition into a superhero takes some getting used to, however.

"It's some kind of world-destroying weapon," he's told. "It's designed to protect its host. Sometimes it does what you want, and sometimes it doesn't."

Oscar winner Susan Sarandon plays the villainess Victoria Kord, who will stop at nothing to get the power back for herself.

"The scarab chose you, but it belongs to me," she hisses.

As we're treated to shots of Blue Beetle in action, George Lopez as Jamie's Uncle Rudy advises, "The universe has sent you a gift, and you have to figure out what you're gonna do with it."

Jamie later says of his new gear, "It's like Batman stuff." Uncle Rudy fires back, "Batman's a fascist."

The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, also stars Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo and Harvey Guillén.

"Blue Beetle" flies into U.S. theaters on Aug. 18.
