— -- "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" has started previews in London this week and "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe won't be attending the highly-anticipated play.

Radcliffe famously played Potter in the movies, but the young actor knows that if he showed up to J.K. Rowling's new play inspired by the books that made her famous, he would take away from the actual event.

"I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it that night, there's going to be a lot of 'Harry Potter' fans there in the audience obviously and would that then become a thing?" Radcliffe told E! News last night in New York City.

He continued, "Would it be more about them watching me watch the show or would it take away from the show. I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show."

The play officially opens on July 30. Radcliffe is starring in the new film "Now You See Me 2" and headlining a play in New York.

Meanwhile, a preview of the play took place last night at London's Palace Theatre and Rowling asked fans not to spoil the plot for fans.

"Let audiences enjoy 'Cursed Child' with all the surprises that we've built into the story," she said in a recorded video to the audience, according to The Associated Press.
