See how Pixar, Marvel worlds and more come to life at Disney parks
A new documentary is giving an inside look at how some of the world's most beloved movies are turned into lands, areas and experiences at Disney parks around the globe.
"Disney Worldbuilders" features interviews with filmmakers including James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Jennifer Lee, and Kevin Feige, who share how their films -- including "Frozen," "Avatar" and "The Avengers" -- became beloved destinations.
"Technology with a good piece of storytelling creates this immersive experience," Favreau says in the new trailer for the documentary, released Wednesday.
Former Disney CEO and senior advisor Bob Iger, Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush, Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, and current Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro are also featured in the documentary.
There are currently 12 Disney theme parks in six locations around the globe, including Florida, California, China, Japan and France.
"Disney Worldbuilders" is directed by Leslie Iwerks, whose father and grandfather, Ub Iwerks and Don Iwerks, respectively, helped shape Disney storytelling.
"Disney Worldbuilders" begins streaming on Disney+ in August.
Attendees at this year's D23 event in Anaheim will be able to watch the documentary at its debut screening on Aug. 16, ahead of its release on Disney+.
The Walt Disney Co. is the parent company of Pixar, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Marvel and ABC News.
