Doris Day on Turning 90: 'I've Had an Amazing Life!'
April 3, 2014 -- Believe it or not, Doris Day is now 90 years old.
Looking back on nine decades, all she can do is appreciate all she has.
"All I ever wanted in my life was to get married, have kids, keep house and cook, and even though I did all these things, I still ended up in Hollywood," she told Closer magazine. "It was a great trip. I've had an amazing life and wonderful times. And I'm happy!"
Day, who lives a quiet life in California, told the magazine that aside from "little aches and pains," she has been "blessed with good health" and is still very active.
"I love to be outside, walking along the beach or working in my garden," she explained. "Those things are all quite enjoyable for me. I have everything I could ever want right here in Carmel!"
In keeping with her low-key lifestyle, Day isn't planning a big birthday party.
Instead, she's hosting a "doggie fashion show" at the hotel she owns near her home. The event will feature local rescues that need to be adopted, and will raise money for her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
"I've never been a fan of celebrating my own birthdays," she explained. "[And] helping animals has been a lifelong passion. They give us unconditional love and ask very little in return."
