Emma Watson recently sat down with British Vogue's Paris Lees for an honest conversation about aging, her passion for activism and why she describes herself as 'self-partnered.'

The 29-year-old actress, who will celebrate her 30th in April, told Lees that she never understood the stigmas attached to aging.

"I was like, 'Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal,'" she said. "Cut to 29, and I'm like, 'oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious, and I realize it's because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around.'"

"If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you're not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you're still figuring things out ... There's just this incredible amount of anxiety," she continued.

However, the actress, activist and feminist says she is perfectly content being single -- although it wasn't always that way.

"I never believed the whole 'I'm happy single' spiel," she said. "I was like, 'This is totally spiel.' It took me a long time, but I'm very happy ... I call it being self-partnered."

But she did add that she's currently embracing dating in her life. While she stays away from matchmaking apps, she said that her friends are "really good" at setting her up.

During the interview, the UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador also revealed the reason she invests so much of her life into promoting gender equality and other social causes.

"Without this part, honestly it's got to the point, it renders everything else that I do meaningless," she said on her work in activist spaces.

"I feel uncomfortable taking up as much space as I'm taking up and not speaking about any of this stuff," she added. "It just doesn't feel right."
