'Grey's Anatomy' cast take a knee in support of national anthem protests
— -- Superstar TV producer Shonda Rhimes and the "Grey's Anatomy" cast are the latest celebrities to come out in support of NFL players protesting racial injustice.
Rhimes captioned the photo she posted to Instagram on Tuesday night: "...and we took a knee in solidarity of racial justice." The 47-year-old star producer and screenwriter posed for the photo alongside Ellen Pompeo, Jesse Williams and Debbie Allen, as they all kneeled on one knee.
The "Grey's Anatomy" creator and her cast were celebrating the 300th episode of the ABC series.
Posting the same photo, Pompeo wrote, "We kneel because we are supposed to be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
When one of Williams' followers suggested boycotting "Grey's Anatomy" after the cast took a knee, the outspoken actor, 36, clapped back.
"You’ve already tried this. No one’s scared of u. Also, u follow me. #GetYourLifeTogether See u this Thursday for our season premiere at 8pm!" Williams wrote.
Numerous celebrities, including "Empire" creator Lee Daniels, Stevie Wonder, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Mark Ruffalo and more have been outspoken in their support of dozens of NFL players and team owners across the country and overseas who have either kneeled or locked arms in solidarity during the playing of the U.S. national anthem.
The impromptu peaceful protests are in response to comments President Trump made during a speech in Huntsville, Alabama, Friday and on Twitter since, in which he called for the NFL to "fire or suspend" those who kneel during "The Star-Spangled Banner."
