Jessica Simpson claps back against 'nauseating' instance of being 'body shamed'

Jessica Simpson has rejected a story about her appearance at the Met Gala and accused the person who told it of body shaming.

In Vogue magazine's oral history of "fashion's biggest night," a former staffer claimed that Simpson, who attended the event in 2007 with then-beau John Mayer, suffered a wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet and was fondled by Mayer at the dinner table.

The former editor also recalled sitting across from Simpson and noting that her "breasts are ... on a platter and I'm looking at them."

In response Tuesday, Simpson shared the famous photo of Sophia Loren looking at Jayne Mansfield's cleavage, and wrote that the story about her is "inaccurate."

"I have persevered through shaming my own body and internalizing the world’s opinions about it for my entire adult life," she wrote. "To read this much anticipated article about the classiest fashion event there is and have to be shamed by another woman for having boobs in 2020 is nauseating."

Simpson, 39, celebrated her figure in a viral Instagram post last year, in which she revealed that she'd lost 100 pounds after giving birth to her daughter Birdie Mae that March. During her pregnancy, the mother of three weighed 240 pounds.

"My first trip away from #BIRDIEMAE and emotional for many reasons, but so proud to feel like myself again," she wrote. "Even when it felt impossible, I chose to work harder."
