Kate Upton slams Victoria's Secret for lack of body inclusivity
Kate Upton didn't mince words this weekend when discussing the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show that usually takes place in December.
When asked about rumors the show might be cancelled this year, Upton said, "We're sick of seeing the same body type."
The supermodel and actress said on "Watch What Happens live" that she did work with the company in the past, but that, "You have to be body inclusive now, every women needs to be represented."
She called any show without inclusivity, a "snoozefest."
ABC News' request for comment from Victoria's Secret on rumors that the fashion show will be cancelled, as well as Upton's comments, was not immediately returned.
The famed fashion brand has been in the news a lot lately.
Last month, more than 120 of the biggest names in fashion signed an open letter to Victoria's Secret expressing their "concern for the safety and wellbeing of the models and young women who aspire to model for Victoria’s Secret."
"In the past few weeks, we have heard numerous allegations of sexual assault, alleged rape, and sex trafficking of models and aspiring models. While these allegations may not have been aimed at Victoria's Secret directly, it is clear that your company has a crucial role to play in remedying the situation," the letter begins.
The letter calls out any alleged connection between Victoria’s Secret, its parent company L Brands, and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein, the disgraced financier who was facing federal sex trafficking charges, died by suicide over a week ago, law enforcement sources and the Bureau of Prisons confirmed to ABC News.
In response to the letter, a spokesperson for the brand said, "We are always concerned about the welfare of our models and want to continue to have dialogue with the Model Alliance and others to accomplish meaningful progress in the industry."
Before the open letter, Victoria's Secret was lauded this summer after Valentina Sampaio announced she was working with the brand as its first transgender model.
The Brazilian star, who has been featured in campaigns by L'Oréal and in Vogue editorials, posted earlier this month from what she said was behind the scenes at Victoria's Secret.
"Backstage click @vspink," she wrote, tagging the famed lingerie company.
Other stars like Laverne Cox were also overjoyed and immediately congratulated her.
"Wow finally!" Cox wrote.
Victoria's Secret model Lily Aldridge wrote, "Stunning," with a slew of heart emojis.
