Kesha Rejects a Settlement Offer That Dr. Luke Denies Making
— -- Kesha is not backing down from her ongoing legal battle with producer Dr. Luke.
Kesha claimed Sunday via her official Instagram account that she received a settlement offer in her lawsuit against Dr. Luke, and that it hinged on her taking back her allegations against the producer. She claimed in a 2014 lawsuit that Dr. Luke was sexually, emotionally and verbally abusive to her during their professional relationship, which he has denied.
Dr. Luke filed a counter suit against Kesha, her mother and manager. The last two have since been dropped from his lawsuit.
Kesha, whose real name is Kesha Rose Sebert, captioned an Instagram selfie Sunday claiming she was offered the opportunity to get out of her record contract with Dr. Luke and Sony “IF i were to lie.”
"So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie." She added, "I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again."
She didn't say who made the offer.
In response to Kesha's Instagram post, a rep for Dr. Luke told ABC News that "Kesha's Instagram posting is false."
The statement adds, "The Court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims. That's because all the evidence -- including Kesha's own videotaped sworn testimony -- show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered into new contracts with Dr. Luke years after this 'incident' supposedly happened. Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones. We look forward to our day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies."
Two weeks ago, Kesha, 29, appealed a court’s decision to deny an injunction in her case against Dr. Luke, whose birth name is Lukasz Gottwald. In February, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich had ruled against a temporary injunction that would have allowed Kesha to record outside of her contract with Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, which is housed under Sony, while the lawsuits made their way through the courts. But Justice Kornreich did say at the time that Kesha could record with others besides Dr. Luke at this label.
