— -- Mariah Carey has become synonymous with the holidays.

Her hit song, “All I Want for Christmas is You” is a classic, and now she’s made it into a children’s book.

ABC News’ Amy Robach sat down with the superstar to talk about the book, her directorial debut and the holidays in the Carey home.

“’All I Want for Christmas is You’is one of the all-time best selling songs, Christmas and otherwise, with 14 million copies plus sold around the world,” Robach said.

“Wow, I didn’t even know that,” Carey replied.

The singer always dreamed of having her hit song become a Christmas classic, and she can officially check that item off her bucket list.

“It’s kind of amazing to me, because I wrote it just out of love for Christmas, and really loving Christmas music,” she explained.

Carey is excited now, because she can share the song with kids through her new children’s book with the same title.

“Really it’s just the lyrics of the song,” she said. “The way little kids react to this song is so amazing to me, so we made it with a little girl who wants a puppy for Christmas and I thought it would be something nice to share with my own kids, as well.”

Carey’s first television movie, “A Christmas Melody,” airs next month on the Hallmark channel. “It was my directorial debut,” the singer said.

As for how being behind the camera compares to being in front of the camera, “It’s less abusive to the feet because you don’t have to wear your shoes, high heeled shoes,” said Carey, 45. “I put on a pair of flats, like slippers. It was cool. I really loved it because it was Christmas and I start getting into the holiday spirit early anyway.”

Holidays at Carey’s home are quite elaborate as well.

“Christmas is quite the affair I have,” she said. “Santa Claus comes every year. He’s my good friend. Real reindeer are there as well. It’s been fun through the years for the peeps who share the holidays with me.”
