Melissa Etheridge Is Married! Meet Her Wife, Linda Wallem
June 2, 2014 -- Melissa Etheridge is a married woman!
On Saturday, the singer, 53, wed her "true love" and fiancee of nearly a year, Linda Wallem, at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, Calif., People reported.
"True love...so blessed. "By the power invested in me by the state of California..." Thanks," wrote Etheridge on Twitter after saying "I do."
Who is Wallem? Here are a few things to know:
1. She's also in Hollywood. Wallem, also 53, created the Showtime series "Nurse Jackie," and is now a showrunner and executive producer of the show. In the past, she's written for "Cybill" and "That '70s Show," and was a co-executive producer for "The Comeback."
2. She has a famous brother! Not only did Wallem create "Nurse Jackie," but her brother is an actor in the series. Stephen Wallem plays Thor in the Showtime series. "We're very close," he told the Advocate. "She got me in the door for the very first audition, but after that I was on my own."
3. She shares a birthday with her new wife. Both Etheridge and Wallem turned 53 on May 29, their wedding day.
4. She and Etheridge were best friends for years first. Also, Wallem is "a very private person," according to Etheridge. "She was my best friend for nine years, so it's an interesting relationship," the singer once told Revue. "I've never been friends with someone for that long and then entered into a romantic relationship. ... This way, she already knows everything. She's my friend and it's really pretty amazing. I'm happier than I've ever, ever been."
5. She is collaborating with Etherdige professionally. Etheridge told Revue that they're working on a potential Broadway show together, with Etheridge writing the music and Wallem overseein gthe story. "It's really edgy and cool," the singer said. "I'm very excited about it."
