Mickey Guyton announces birth of her 1st child, a son named Grayson
Country singer Mickey Guyton and her husband, Grant Savoy, have welcomed their first child.
The Grammy-nominated artist, 37, announced the birth of their son, Grayson, on Monday.
"The hardest and most beautiful thing I have ever done," she wrote in an Instagram post featuring a photo of her newborn. "Welcome to the world Grayson!"
"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. - Psalm 30:5," she added alongside the snap.
Guyton announced she was expecting in August, sharing, "I’m so excited to announce that I’m having a baby!" She said her life "completely changed in an instant" when she found out the news, and she was "so excited and terrified all at the same time."
"I have no idea what I am doing but am so thankful that God chose me to be this baby’s mom," she wrote in an Instagram post.
In October, the "Black Like Me" singer revealed she was having a son.
She spoke to People in October about the concerns she had bringing a son into this world amid the racial tensions, discrimination and injustice prevalent in the United States.
"I've seen racial injustice happen to my husband. I've had a 'Karen' falsely make claims against him and say some of the most heinous things, like the N-word," she said. "I'm growing this Black child in my belly that is going to have to face this. I pray for him."
Guyton later told "Good Morning America" that a large part of why she uses her platform to speak out on racial injustice is so her son "doesn't have to live in fear for just being."
"My husband and I had a conversation of when we're going to have the talk with my son," she shared during an interview in January. "And the talk isn't the birds and the bees talk -- the talk is how I'm going to teach my son to handle being pulled over or stopped by law enforcement."
"That was really hard to actually have that conversation before my son is even born," she continued. "I'm actually talking about that."
Guyton and Savoy have been married since June 2017.
