'The Owl House' star Mae Whitman comes out as pansexual
Actress Mae Whitman came out as pansexual in a Twitter thread about her involvement in the Disney Channel animated series "The Owl House."
"Just taking a moment to say I am SO proud to be even a small part of a show like The Owl House. Being pansexual myself, I wish I had such incredible characters like Amity and Luz in my life when I was growing up. Queer representation is sososo [sic] important," the "Good Girls" star shared Monday, adding an encouraging message of "keep it up world!"
Whitman, 33, voices Amity Blight, who identifies as lesbian, on "The Owl House," a series created by Dana Terrace which has been applauded for it's LGBTQ representation. The character is currently in a relationship with Luz Noceda, the show's bisexual lead.
The "Parenthood" alum then went on to explain what being pansexual means to her.
"I know ppl might be unfamiliar with what pansexual means; for me it means I know I can fall in love with people of all genders. This is the word that fits me best," the "Parenthood" alum explained in a follow-up tweet, adding that she is "proud+happy to be part of the Bi+ community."
According to the Human Rights Campaign, pansexual is defined as describing "someone who has the potential for emotional, romantic or sexual attraction to people of any gender though not necessarily simultaneously, in the same way or to the same degree."
Whitman had previously opened up about how the people she is attracted to is "constantly changing," telling Glamour in 2014, "I just like people. I like everyone."
