Sandra Bullock's Biggest Concern for Her Son Louis

— -- As the mother of an African American boy, Sandra Bullock worries about the world he will grow up in.

"You see how far we’ve come in civil rights -- and where we’ve gotten back to now. I want my son to be safe. I want my son to be judged for the man he is," she said in the November issue of Glamour. "We are at a point now where if we don’t do something, we will have destroyed what so many amazing people have done."

Meanwhile, her 5-year-old adopted son has forced Bullock to grow up.

"I don’t feel like I was an adult till about five years ago," she told her "Our Brand Is Crisis" co-star Zoe Kazan, who interviewed her for the magazine. "I literally went, 'I know who I am.' Not completely. But about two years ago all the puzzle pieces came together. I went, 'This is who I like. This is who I am.'"

But becoming a mom was only part of the reason. Bullock's high-profile divorce from her ex, "Monster Garage" host Jesse James, and what she called "the onslaught" also contributed to her epiphany.

"I let it affect me. I heard it all," she said about her messy public divorce. "And I had to step back and go, 'I have the greatest gift in little Louis, and I’m gonna let him see the woman I want him to know.' So a child forces you to get your s*** together. In the best way."
