Who Is Solange Knowles?
May 13, 2014 — -- Video of Solange Knowles allegedly punching and kicking Jay Z after the Met Gala was released on Monday. Since then, the question is who is Solange aside from being Beyonce's younger sister.
The 27-year-old -- who has worked to separate herself from her iconic older sister -- is now linked in a negative way to her and her husband.
The video shows Knowles walking up to the rapper and brother-in-law and then punching and kicking him, while a bodyguard does his best to hold her back. At the end of the 58-second clip, Beyonce, 32, steps in between the two.
But Solange is also a singer and model in addition to being related to Beyonce.

She's also done a good job at distancing herself and carving out her own niche.
Her first studio album "Solo Star" was released in 2003 and then she had some minor acting roles in movies like "Bring It On: All or Nothing" in 2006. Her second album came out in 2008, "Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams," which had more of an old-school sound, deviating from Destiny's Child or Beyonce.
She released "True" in 2012 to very favorable reviews. Shortly after, she started her own label Saint Records. Some critics said "True" sounded like 1980's Madonna and that it "sounds different to everything on the radio, but could still be on the radio."

Pitchfork Media gave "True" a 7.8 out of 10 and Metacritic gave it an 8.
Pitchfork gave the album high praise saying "it's the sound of a complicated slow dance during a night's dwindling last minutes, fueled by pounding hearts and racing minds."
In recent years, Solange has also garnered attention for being a fashion trendsetter, wearing Alexander McQueen and Chanel and modeling for Harper's Bazaar and Rimmel London.
She was also on the cover of Essence magazine in April.
Finally, Solange is also a mother.
She has son Julez in 2004 when she was just 17, and consistently tweets about him.
With all this going on and all the hard work that Solange has put in to elevate herself without following in Beyonce's footsteps, what does this altercation mean to her future?
