Video game Fortnite to stream Christopher Nolan movies
With movie theaters still weeks away from reopening due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one video game is providing some big-screen entertainment -- virtually, of course.
The massively popular video game Fortnite announced Wednesday it's holding "Movie Nite at Party Royale’s Big Screen" on Friday by streaming three Christopher Nolan classics. Fortnite describes Party Royale as "a new experimental and evolving space."
Depending on what country a player lives in, they'll be able to watch one full-length, Nolan-directed film directly in the video game setting. The films featured in the lineup are "The Dark Knight," "Inception" and "The Prestige."
Players in the U.S. can catch a showing of "Inception" -- with viewings at 8 a.m. ET, 8 p.m. ET and 11:55 p.m. ET. For more details on showtimes, players can check out the full schedule.
"Navigating distribution rights for different countries and languages for full movies is challenging," developer Epic Games said in a press release. "As part of this first test, we wanted as many people to experience Movie Nite as possible. The film you'll be able to watch will depend on your country, and unfortunately we couldn't reach everyone with these screenings."
"We believe the idea of getting together with your friends and family at Party Royale to watch a movie is powerful and exciting," they continued, "and we're looking at ways to increase global participation in the future."
This announcement comes after Fortnite premiered a trailer for Nolan's upcoming film, "Tenet." The highly anticipated flick is set to hit movie theaters July 31.
