Hillshire voluntarily recalls more than 50M pounds of Jimmy Dean, State Fair meat-on-a-stick products due to potential contamination
The Hillshire Brands Company has announced a voluntary recall of 58 million pounds of corn dogs and breakfast-on-a-stick products due to potential extraneous material contamination.
According to an announcement from the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service over the weekend, the recalled products may contain pieces of wood "embedded in the batter."
Tyson Foods, the parent company of Hillshire said in a statement Saturday that the recall specifically includes select State Fair Corn Dogs on a Stick and Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick products.
The company said "a limited number of products" were impacted, and that it initiated the recall "out of an abundance of caution."
According to Tyson Foods, "no other State Fair or Jimmy Dean brand products are impacted" by the recall.
"The affected products were only produced at the Haltom City facility (M582+P894) and it is the only location affected by this voluntary recall," it said.
The FSIS noted over the weekend that Hillshire had "conducted an investigation and determined that the wooden sticks entered the production process prior to product battering."
The agency said it was "concerned that some products may be in consumers' refrigerators and freezers, along with school and institution refrigerators and freezers."
What to know about Hillshire recall on Jimmy Dean, State Fair products
According to Tyson Foods, 18 items from the State Fair brand of products were impacted by the recall, along with eight more from Jimmy Dean and one additional unbranded corn dog product produced by Tyson Foods.
The recalled products were produced from March 17 to Sept. 26, 2025, at Hillshire's Haltom City facility, according to the company.
The products are marked with an establishment number "EST-582" or "P-894," which is printed on the packaging, according to the FSIS.

The FSIS said the recalled items were "sold online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide."
"They were also sold to school districts and Department of Defense facilities nationwide. While the products were distributed to schools, it resulted from commercial sales and not part of food provided by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program," the agency stated.
Consumers who purchased any of the recalled items "should not consume them," Tyson Foods said.

The FSIS said Hillshire had "received multiple consumer complaints" thus far, "five of which involved injuries."
"FSIS has received no additional reports of injury from consumption of these products," the agency stated. "Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider."

A representative for Tyson Foods did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment.
