American Girl's 2024 Girl of the Year is a skilled gymnast ready to level up
American Girl unveiled Lila Monetti, a competitive gymnast and horseback rider, as its 2024 Girl of the Year this morning.
Lila, 10, is a child of America's heartland, growing up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.
"We know our fans will flip for our newest Girl of the Year, Lila Monetti, who arrives just in time for the holidays," said Jamie Cygielman, general manager of American Girl.
Lila, a competitive gymnast, is focused on taking on many new challenges like moving up to a competitive gymnastics team while balancing friendships and exploring new hobbies.
On a visit to a riding camp, Lila, an avid horseback rider, meets a four-legged friend, a Palomino horse named Hollyhock. Lila and Hollyhock work together to develop Lila's gym skills, and help Hollyhock find her place at the stable.
"As with all our beloved characters, Lila will inspire kids to face new challenges with purpose and positivity and find the joy and strength that comes from unexpected friendships," Cygielman said.

American Girl teamed up with best-selling author Erin Falligant to tell Lila's story in an illustrated journal that comes with the doll and a separate full-length novel, "Lila Goes for Gold," which hits shelves in January.
In celebration of the announcement, American Girl will donate $25,000 worth of Girl of the Year books to Save the Children's U.S. literacy program, according to a release from the company.
"Through Lila, I hope readers find a friend to relate to and learn from as they face their own everyday challenges," Falligant said.
Lila has amber eyes and caramel-colored hair fashioned in two half ponytails. She will come with a wardrobe including a glittery pink tank and track pants, colorful sandals, bracelets and hairbands. American Girl is also releasing Hollyhock the horse as part of Lila's product world, with a detailed saddle and bridle and numerous accessories to style her extra-long mane.
