Kyrie Irving ruled out vs. Bulls because of quad contusion
— -- Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving will miss Monday night's game against the Chicago Bulls because of a left quadriceps contusion.
The Celtics, playing the second night of a back-to-back on the road, also will be without forward Marcus Morris, who is battling left knee soreness.
Boston has listed Al Horford as questionable due to a right knee contusion.?Horford bumped knees with Anthony Tolliver?during Sunday's victory over the Detroit Pistons.
Irving had one of his quietest scoring nights of the season against the Pistons, finishing with just 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Irving came out of the game earlier than usual in the first quarter and was spotted removing his left shoe and stretching out his leg during a timeout.
Irving did not reference any ailment after the game and playfully chastised himself for his shooting woes, saying he told himself, "Make a damn shot."
This is only the second game Irving has missed this season. He sat out a win over the Toronto Raptors last month after suffering a facial fracture the game before. Irving wore a mask for 13 straight games before ditching it for Sunday's win in Detroit.
The Celtics have been cautious with Morris, who will miss his 13th game of the season Monday. Boston has held Morris out when his knee hasn't responded well to game action.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Sunday that Morris will be re-evaluated Tuesday when the team is back in Boston.
Horford bumped knees with Tolliver in the first half and briefly retreated to the locker room. He returned to finish the game but deemed himself "sore" after the victory and said he'd see how the knee responded Monday before determining his game status.
