Sources: Magic fire Jacque Vaughn

— -- The Orlando Magic have fired head coach Jacque Vaughn, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Magic dropped their 10th straight game -- and have lost 16 of their last 18 games -- with a 110-103 loss at San Antonio on Wednesday.

Sources told ESPN that the players will be told at a mandatory team meeting Thursday. The Magic has scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m.

Vaughn, 39, is in his third year as Orlando's coach and has a 58-158 record. A former Spurs assistant coach under Gregg Popovich, Vaughn was hired to guide the Magic in their post- Dwight Howard era.

He also played for the Magic during his 12-year career as a point guard.

With the club essentially starting over, Orlando was patient with Vaughn while the Magic went 43-121 over his first two seasons. But as the club has improved its roster this season, the results didn't match expectations -- and has the same 15-37 record as it had through 52 games in the 2013-14 season.

The Magic's .269 win percentage over the past three seasons under Vaughn is the worst in the NBA during that span, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Vaughn's win percentage is the worst ever among Magic coaches and the second-worst in NBA history among coaches with at least 200 games. Only Sidney Lowe, who coached parts of two seasons with the Timberwolves and three seasons with the Grizzlies, has a worse win percentage.

It is likely the Magic will promote one of their assistant coaches to interim head coach, but several league executives have speculated that former Magic player Scott Skiles could be a front-runner for the job. Skiles played five of his 10 NBA seasons with the Magic, enjoying the best years of his career there.
