Broadcaster and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is no longer employed at CBS Sports following his arrest earlier this summer for driving while intoxicated.

CBS Sports released a statement Friday, saying, "CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward."

CBS Sports said former NFL star JJ Watt, who was announced as Romo's temporary replacement back in July, will "continue to partner with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on our lead NFL announce team for the rest of the season."

"All other teams remain the same, including Ian Eagle, Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn," the network added.

In a statement to ABC News, Romo said he was "proud" of his work at CBS Sports, which he joined back in April 2017.

"I'm proud of what I accomplished at CBS Sports over the last nine years," Romo said. "I approached my role as a game analyst the way I've approached everything in my life -- with a desire to win and be the best that I can be."

He continued, "I'm going to use this time to take a break, something I've never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity. I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans."

Romo was arrested in Milwaukee on July 23 and later pleaded no contest to operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

According to an arrest report from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office at the time, Romo "performed poorly" on standardized field sobriety tests and was taken into custody and later released. The sheriff's office also released body camera footage of Romo's arrest and sobriety test.

A court later revoked Romo's driving privileges for six months and ordered him to pay a fine and "attend and complete" an alcohol assessment program.

CBS Sports initially placed Romo on leave after the DWI incident.

In a Sept. 1 statement shared to Instagram, Romo had said in part that he would "take responsibility" and "own my mistakes fully" following the arrest, with a focus on returning to CBS.

Romo, a four-time Pro Bowler, retired from the NFL in 2017 after 14 years as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He joined CBS Sports in April that same year as the lead game analyst for "The NFL on CBS," alongside Nantz and Wolfson.
