Diane's Dare: Walk Over Fire

ByGood Morning America
February 25, 2008, 2:35 PM

Feb. 25, 2008 — -- "Good Morning America" has already dared Chris Cuomo to drop off the top of a 51-story building, and Robin Roberts to brave a fashion catwalk bald, and now it's Diane Sawyer's turn to conquer a fear.

Today, Roberts revealed Sawyer's "GMA" dare will be to walk on fire. In two days the she will undergo the ultimate challenge, using her mind to conquer her fear.

This Wednesday in Times Square Sawyer and some "GMA" staff members will walk across scalding coals — burning at a temperature of 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

The feat is about mind over matter. Sawyer and some members of the "GMA" staff visited a hypnotist last week to learn some of the tools that would help them harness their own mental powers to take on the task.

"My dare was to get in that zone, to get in that self-hypnotic zone where you can firewalk, where you can master anything in your life," Sawyer said.

"One of the things that we learned, this is one of the oldest and most universal symbols of achieving your goals, walking on fire. It starts way back in 2000 B.C.; there's evidence of doing it. We're going to do it, and that's going to change our lives."
