A 13-year-old girl in Texas bit a man twice after he allegedly attempted to kidnap her while she was walking to school, according to the Galveston Police Department.

On Monday at approximately 6:58 a.m., officers responded to Central Middle School in Galveston after "receiving calls from the school reporting that a student walking to school had been approached and grabbed by an unknown man," police said in a statement on Monday.

Once at the school, officials met with the student, a 13-year-old girl, who relayed what happened to her that morning while she was on her walk to school.

When she left her family's apartment and was en route to school, the girl said she heard "footsteps approaching," with a man then grabbing her from behind, police said.

After a "brief struggle," the 13-year-old girl bit the man twice and "managed to break free," running directly to her school, police said.

The girl did not sustain any injuries after the attempted kidnapping, officials said.

Teachers at the middle school contacted police after hearing the girl's account, officials said.

After the girl's parents arrived at the school, they accompanied police back to their apartment to "retrace the student's route to identify where the incident occurred," officials said.

While investigating the area, police were able to obtain video surveillance footage from a business "showing the student walking through the area, following shortly after by a man taking the same path," officials said.

The individual in the video, who police believe is the suspect, is described as a "White or Hispanic man wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and what appeared to be a ski mask," officials said.

As of Tuesday, a suspect has not been arrested, police confirmed to ABC News.

Officials said anyone with information on the suspect's identity should contact the Galveston Police Department at 409-763-3777.
