30th Anniversary of 'Pretty in Pink' Is Today

 -- One of John Hughes' classic films, "Pretty in Pink," celebrates its 30th anniversary on Sunday.

The romantic comedy, written by Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch, starred Molly Ringwald as high school senior Andie. She was caught in a love triangle involving rich kid Blane, played by Andrew McCarthy, and Jon Cryer's Duckie. James Spader co-starred as the snobby Steff.

The film also features appearances by, among others, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" actress Kristy Swanson, comedian Andrew "Dice" Clay, and Gina Gershon.

"Pretty in Pink" grossed more than $40 million at the domestic box office following its release on Feb. 28, 1986, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

The film's soundtrack is regarded as a classic, too, led by the titular track by The Psychedelic Furs and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's "If You Leave." There were also contributions by Echo & the Bunnymen, New Order, INXS, The Smiths, Danny Hutton, Suzanne Vega and Joe Jackson, and more.
