Six children, including a 2-month-old infant, were discovered locked inside a storage unit in Milwaukee early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Milwaukee Police responded to a storage facility at approximately 1:36 a.m. after receiving reports of children trapped in a storage unit, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers found six children ranging in age from 2 months to 9 years old inside the unit. The other children were 2, 3, 5, and 7 years old, police said.

A 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were taken into custody, according to police. Their charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

"I'm confused. I don't even know how to respond to it," a man from the area told ABC News affiliate WISN. "To me, this sounds like a cry for help, maybe they just needed help and didn't know how to get it."
