Aaliyah Lunsford, 3, Vanishes from Home in West Virginia

Sept. 28, 2011 — -- The FBI has joined the search for a missing 3-year-old, Aaliyah Lunsford, who disappeared from her West Virginia home Saturday morning.

Police and FBI agents said today they are still operating under the belief that Lunsford could be alive somewhere. She was last seen when her mother checked on her around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, but was gone by 9:30 a.m., according to ABC affiliate WDTV.

Crews have searched the West Fork River near the child's home, while community volunteers and K-9s have combed the area around Bendale, W.Va., where the family lives.

Aaliyah was last seen wearing purple Dora the Explorer pajamas, the report said.

Lewis County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Mike Posey told WDTV that authorities are interviewing people about the girl's disappearance but have not declared it a crime or marked off a crime scene.

"Right now, there are no clues leading us anywhere," Posey said Monday. "No clues. It's like she's just disappeared."

At a press conference Wednesday, FBI Special Agent John Hambrick said progress has been made on the search, but declined to elaborate. He said that professional search teams were working alongside community volunteers to help find the girl.

An Amber Alert has not been issued because authorities have no suspect, car or license plate to alert motorists to look out for.

A call to the girl's home went unreturned.
