Demi Lovato Leaves Jonas Bros. Tour to Get Treatment for 'Emotional and Physical Issues'

Nov. 3, 2010 — -- Demi Lovato stunned fans and the entertainment community with news that she cut short her international tour with Jonas Brothers to enter treatment for what her camp called "emotional and physical issues that she has dealt with for some time."

"Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help," a statement added. "She is doing just that. Demi and her family ask that the media please respect their privacy during this difficult time. She regrets not being able to finish her tour, but is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future."

The 18-year-old actress and singer/songwriter, who became a teen idol after her starring role in the "Camp Rock" movies on the Disney Channel, entered treatment on Monday.

A source close to Lovato's family told ABC News that the teen had a long history of being bullied in school and battled eating disorders.

There also were rumors that Lovato has struggled with cutting, the source said. The rumors were fueled following a public appearance at which Lovato was photographed with thin marks running across her wrist.

The same source said that a recent physical altercation with another member of the tour brought on the decision to seek treatment.

"Demi Lovato has been struggling for a while with these issues," People Magazine assistant editor Sharon Cotliar told "GMA." "From what I understand there was a fight and that led her to realize perhaps she needed to go seek help."
