Three Soldiers Arrested After Botched Pot Facility Robbery
Nov. 14, 2010— -- Three active duty soldiers from Fort Carson, Colo., were arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly attempting to rob a medical marijuana dispensary in Colorado Springs, according to police.
Security cameras caught the three men on tape attempting to break into the Rocky Road Remedies facility. The trio, who donned ski masks and carried crow bars, found themselves trapped inside after all the doors locked from inside.
Police officers happened to be right next door on another call when the alarm was triggered and the men found themselves trapped inside, unable to open the front or back doors to the store.
Darius Thomas, 23, Cory Young, 22, and Ramone Holling, 22 were arrested on suspicion of second degree burglary.
The three men allegedly broke into the facility early Saturday via the back door, which police said they easily slammed open using a crowbar.
"They slammed this lock with a sledge hammer and then pried the door open with a crowbar," Renze Waddington, owner of Rocky Road Remedies, told ABC News affiliate KRDO in Colorado Springs.
Unfortunately for the three, when the door closed behind them, it locked. Had they not been trapped, the bumbling trio would have encountered yet another problem.
"All of the medication and the products, and the money is put in the safe every night," Waddington said.
Watching the security footage of the men trapped in his facility, running back and forth from the front to the back of the building, Waddington said the trio "were like rats in a maze."
He said he does not, however, hold anything against the military.
"I respect people in the military, and I don't really want to shine a bad light on the military. I think it's isolated characters," Waddington said.
The three soldiers are being held on $10,000 bail.
