Chicago Cop Jason Van Dyke, Who Shot Laquan McDonald, Pleads Not Guilty

— -- Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke pleaded not guilty this morning to charges related to the shooting death of Laquan McDonald.

Van Dyke was charged with murdering the 17-year-old in October 2014 after the officer was arrested Nov. 24 when a grand jury decided to press criminal charges.

Van Dyke, who has been suspended from the police force, was arraigned on first-degree murder and official misconduct charges.

He appeared in court late last month prior to being released on $1.5 million bond.

Today's arraignment comes amid new outrage in the city following another police shooting this weekend that led to the deaths of two people, a 55-year-old grandmother and a 19-year-old student.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Monday he is cutting short his family's holiday vacation to Cuba in order to return to Chicago to deal with the aftermath of this weekend's shootings.
