Man's Best Friend Promoted to Captain at a Peruvian Police Station
ByMARIA LUISA MARTINEZ and INGRID ROJAS
January 17, 2013, 9:33 PM

Jan. 22, 2013— -- This is the rags-to-riches story of a stray dog named Julio. Twelve years ago, he was roaming the streets of Lima, Peru, when a police officer called Carlos Iglesias rescued him and took him to his police station. Then without any K-9 training, the two went on to fight crime and last year Julio was promoted to captain.

Captain Julio is now retired but he's a beloved part of the community. A neighbor paid $1,000 for a bronze statue in his honor when Julio was promoted to captain. And we just love that his full name is Julio Iglesias.
