Donald Trump OK With Caitlyn Jenner Using Any Bathroom in His Tower
— -- North Carolina should allow people to “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate,” Donald Trump said this morning of the state’s new law that bans people from using bathrooms that don't match the sex indicated on their birth certificate.
“North Carolina did something that was very strong,” the Republican presidential front-runner told “The Today Show.” “And they're paying a big price,” a reference to the growing economic boycott against the state.
State lawmakers should “leave it the way it is,” he added.
Asked whether Caitlyn Jenner would be free to use any bathroom she wanted if she walked into Trump Tower, he said, “That is correct.”
She is the reality-TV star and gold-medal-winning Olympian who competed as Bruce Jenner.
Republican Party primary candidate John Kasich has said he is opposed to North Carolina’s so-called bathroom bill.
"I wouldn't have signed that law,” the Ohio governor told CBS News in an interview that aired April 10. And when asked about the law at a town hall hosted by MSNBC April 14, he said, "We're not passing anything like that in my state."
But Sen. Ted Cruz supports the North Carolina law, bashing Trump's comments as what he called evidence that the New York real estate mogul is too politically correct to be the GOP nominee.
“Donald agreed with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in attacking the state of North Carolina for passing their bathroom ordinance,” Cruz told supporters today at a rally in Frederick, Maryland. “And Donald, on television this morning, said, gosh, he thought that men should be able to go into the girls’ bathroom if they want to. Now let me ask you, have we gone stark raving nuts? This is the political correctness.”
In defending his support of the North Carolina law, Cruz said, "I’m the father of two little girls. Here is basic common sense. Grown adult men, strangers, should not be alone in a bathroom with little girls. And that’s not conservative or liberal, that’s not Republican or Democrat, that’s basic common sense.”
Cruz even coined a new campaign slogan for Trump.
"But you know a few months ago Donald told us he could be the most politically correct person on earth. And I guess he’s showing us what that looks like. I am waiting with anticipation for the new baseball caps, ‘Make PC great again,’” Cruz said.
