Donald Trump Slams Hillary Clinton as a 'World-Class Liar'
— -- Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump today blasted Hillary Clinton as “corrupt” and a “world-class liar.”
“Hillary Clinton may be the most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency of the United States,” he said Wednesday in New York at his Trump SoHo hotel — which got him a standing ovation from his supporters in attendance.
“Hillary Clinton, and as you know, she, most people know, she is a world-class liar. Just look at her pathetic email server statements,” he said, referring to her use of a private email account for official correspondence while she was at the State Department — a controversy that has dogged her campaign.
He added, “If she ever became president, God help us.”
The two candidates have attacked each other in several speeches over the past few weeks. Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, hit Trump’s economic positions on Tuesday and attacked his foreign policy plans earlier this month.
Trump, who has low favorability numbers among voters of color, argued that Clinton’s “radical policies” would be bad for “poor African-American and Hispanic workers who need jobs.”
His speech was originally scheduled for Monday of last week but was postponed after the Orlando massacre that Sunday. It was the first speech after the firing of his controversial campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, and the first wholly managed by Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
It was perhaps the closest Trump has come to a pivot so far. He made plays at several constituencies that have in recent decades eluded Republicans: the LGBT community, African-Americans, Hispanics and even Muslims, whom he has said he would temporarily bar from immigrating to the U.S.
“ISIS also threatens peaceful Muslims across the Middle East and peaceful Muslims across the world, who have been terribly victimized by horrible brutality and who only want to raise their kids in peace and safety,” Trump said.
He added that Clinton lacks the “temperament,” “judgment” and “competence” to be president.
“Her leadership style — volcanic, impulsive, disdainful and disdainful of the rules set for everyone else — hasn’t changed one bit,” he said.
Trump attempted to frame the race in terms of who would nominate Supreme Court justices, calling it “one of the most important factors in this election.”
“I’m going to have many appointments — could be as many as five, probably will be three, could be four,” he said.
Finally, invoking his rival, he turned her campaign slogan on its head.
“She believes she’s entitled to the office,” Trump said today. “Her campaign slogan is ‘I’m with her.’ You know what my response is to that? I’m with you, the American people.”
