"Not about killing Hodor — we kill a lot of main characters," Benioff said of the character's demise before the camera panned to them sitting on a couch full of cash.

"We are sorry for all the idiots who will be shouting 'Hodor' every time you go through a door," he added, alluding to the origins of the name (“Hold the door”), which was explained in Sunday's show.

His comments were followed by a video of people who screamed "Hodor" as they entered an elevator.

"We should have seen that coming," Weiss said. "Again, so, so sorry. People are the worst."

It was a really clever way to make fans laugh after saying goodbye to a beloved character.
