Inside one big cat sanctuary where dozens of rescued lions and tigers roam
One animal sanctuary in England always wakes up roaring.
The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent is home to 40 felines across 36 acres, rescued from all over the world.
"Set in Smarden at the heart of the Kent countryside, The Big Cat Sanctuary is a globally recognized center dedicated to the conservation and rescue of wild cats. The initiatives undertaken by the team at The Sanctuary are vital in saving some of the planet’s most endangered and iconic species from extinction," its website reads.
Cameron Whitnall, the managing director of the sanctuary, told ABC News' Danny New that the rescue has five major pillars of helping the animals they save.
"We operate on five pillars, so education, welfare, conservation, rescue and breeding," he said.
Whitnall also added that the sanctuary tries to emulate the wilderness as closely as possible.
"We don't want it to be easy because also in the wild every day in the wild is a battle to survive," he said.
The Big Cat Sanctuary's website says that rescue gives its cats excellent care, while also trying to give them the most fulfilling life.
"We strive to provide the most fulfilled life in captivity for all our resident cats, stimulating them both mentally and physically. Ensuring our cats receive excellent care, a varied diet and different sources of enrichment, whilst maintaining a peaceful environment and not compromising the tranquillity of the cats within the sanctuary," the sanctuary's website reads.
