Carmine Agnello, a grandson of mob boss John Gotti, is under arrest over an alleged domestic assault, police said, weeks before he's due to report to prison for COVID-19 fraud.

Police in Nassau County on Long Island, New York, said on Tuesday night they were called to a East Norwich home where a verbal argument between Agnello and his girlfriend allegedly escalated into a physical fight.

Agnello is accused of slapping and punching the woman multiple times before allegedly choking her, police said. He also allegedly smashed her phone on the ground, police said.

Carmine G. Agnello leaves federal court in Central Islip, New York, after he was sentenced to federal prison on April 20, 2026.

Agnello was charged with assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and criminal mischief, police said. He is due in court on Thursday.

The arrest comes weeks before Agnello was due to begin serving a 15-month federal prison sentence following his conviction in April on charges related to a COVID-19 fraud.

Agnello pleaded guilty to stealing $1.1 million from the Small Business Administration's Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program. He admitted to lying on pandemic relief loan forms about the number of employees at his business, Crown Auto Parts & Recycling.
