Witness say that dozens of shell casings could be seen on the ground and that detectives are investigating a white BMW that is parked outside Terminal 1.

One traveler who was asleep during the altercation told Chicago ABC station WLS she had "no clue" how she didn't hear a bullet pierce a nearby window.

"I was terrified, so I honestly, these ear plugs saved my life," Raquel Barajas told WLS. "Getting up would have made me more scared and put me in a worse scenario, so I'm just really grateful to be alive right now."

O'Hare Airport said in a statement that as of 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, "all lower-level arrival lanes at all terminals" are fully open.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
