'Wheel of Fortune' Contestant Solves Puzzle With 1 Letter

— -- One man's mind-blowing performance on "Wheel of Fortune" had his opponents left in the dust last week.

New York native Robert Santoli, an IT assistant, slayed the game with his answer to this "place" with only one letter revealed in the puzzle:

_ _ _ _ &

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ D

The answer - Port & Starboard.

Later, Santoli quickly buzzed in and solved the song lyrics, "Oh what a night" with only three letters visible.

"Robert, what took you so long?" host Pat Sajak joked.

Santoli told his local newspaper that he first tried out for “Wheel of Fortune” at 19 years old.

Leading up to the January taping, the 23-year-old studied ahead of time when he was told that his episode would be nautical-themed and sponsored by Carnival Cruise Line.

Santoli won two cruise trips and $76,000, making him the winner of the bonus round and the game.

Santoli told his local paper he plans to pay college loans and buy a car with his winnings.
