Murder suspect who escaped from Georgia jail captured
A murder suspect who had escaped from a Georgia jail was taken into custody Tuesday morning after having been on the run for two days, authorities said.
The suspect, 32-year-old Pablo Zuriel Miranda, broke out of Atkinson County Jail in Pearson, Georgia, at 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore.
The FBI announced Monday that it was joining the manhunt and was offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to Miranda's arrest.
Miranda was captured in Pearson, Georgia, and is in custody in Atkinson County, according to the FBI.
Additional details regarding his capture and arrest are not yet public.
Miranda was arrested in May 2024 for an alleged roadside shooting that left one man dead, according to ABC News' southwest Georgia affiliate WALB.
Moore posted a photo on Facebook Tuesday morning showing Miranda sitting in the back of a vehicle seemingly handcuffed.
In its announcement Monday, FBI Atlanta said it believed Miranda may attempt to flee to Mexico through Atlanta or other paths of escape.
Miranda was being held on pretrial detention for state-issued charges of murder and aggravated assault, according to the FBI. On Sunday, he was charged with felony escape in Atkinson County and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest, the FBI said.
Authorities said that Miranda should be considered armed and dangerous while he was on the run, warning members of the public not to approach Miranda if they saw him.
Atkinson County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were searching for Miranda in addition to federal authorities.
