New details in former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore's arrest
There are more details about the arrest of former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore, who has been charged with home invasion and stalking, including allegations that he "had a long history of domestic violence" against the alleged victim.
A Pittsfield Township Police detective testified during a probable cause hearing on Dec. 12. She gave a timeline of the events leading up to Moore's arrest on Dec. 10 at the apartment of the unnamed woman, who was allegedly having an affair with the 39-year-old married father of three, according to prosecutors.
Detective Jessica Welker told the court that at 4:10 p.m. on that day, officers were dispatched to the alleged victim's address after her attorney, Heidi Sharp, called the police. Sharp alerted the police that her client said, "Moore was inside her home, attacking her," Welker testified.
Welker testified that Sharp advised that "Moore had a long history of domestic violence against [name withheld] and that he was very dangerous," according to the transcript of the hearing.
Sharp told Welker that her client called her saying, "He's here. He's here. Sherrone is here" and that Moore had armed himself with a knife and Sharp could hear screaming over the phone, according to the detective's testimony.
The alleged incident happened after Sharp and her client had left the University of Michigan after filing a report, Welker said.
Sharp advised that her client wanted to leave town, so she went back to her apartment to collect her belongings, according to the detective's testimony.
That is when, according to Sharp, the alleged victim heard footsteps outside and before she was able to secure her apartment door, Moore "barged into her apartment with tears in his eyes," Welker said during the hearing.
The detective's testimony included details about what allegedly transpired inside the apartment.
Sharp told the detective that Moore allegedly grabbed two knives out of a drawer and pointed them at the alleged victim saying, "You ruined my life. You ruined my life" while backing her towards the living room, according to Welker's testimony.
When the alleged victim got her attorney on the phone and put her on speaker, and Moore heard Sharp's voice, that is when he immediately backed up and turned the knives on himself, pointing them at his neck, and saying he was going to kill himself and that she was going to watch, Welker testified.
Information from a bond information form issued for Moore gave other details about the alleged incident.
The court document claimed the defendant "grabbed some butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors and threatened to take his own life."
"He made statements that he was going to kill himself and make her watch, his blood will be on her hands, and she has ruined his life. [Defendant] only stopped this behavior when [the victim] said she was going to call the police," the bond information form said.
Moore, who coached the Michigan Wolverines football team for two seasons, was charged on Dec. 12 with home invasion, stalking in a domestic relationship and breaking and entering in a domestic relationship. He was released on $25,000 bond later that day and ordered to wear a GPS monitor and not communicate with the victim.
The home invasion charge is a felony and the other charges are misdemeanors.
Moore's attorneys contended that Moore has no criminal history and poses no threat to the public or to the complainant.
He is next due in court on Jan. 22.
The university fired Moore prior to his arrest that day, saying in a statement that "credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member."
University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso sent a letter to the campus community calling for anyone with information about "Coach Moore's behavior" to come forward.
"There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan," he said.
