What appears to be another possible set of human remains was found over the weekend at Lake Mead, outside Las Vegas, officials said.

“On Aug. 16, the Lake Mead Interagency Communications Center received a report of potential human remains at Boulder Beach,” according to a statement from the National Park Service, which oversees the massive reservoir.

“National Park Service rangers and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time,” the statement continued.

Law enforcement officials told ABC News Monday that investigators are now working to determine whether the remains are, in fact, human and whether they are connected to a crime.

Among the remains, officials told ABC News, a jaw apparently surfaced.

Lake Mead is the largest man-made reservoir in the country, and this month its water level hit an all-time low because of climate change and drought conditions.

As Lake Mead has dried up in recent years, it has revealed a number of sets of human remains, including a body in a barrel that many believe could be a decades-old victim of a Las Vegas mob hit.

ABC News has chronicled the secrets of Lake Mead over the years and featured the mystery of the body in the barrel in a 2023 episode of “20/20.”
