Surrogate Surge: Now Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban Welcome New Baby
Jan. 18, 2011— -- Actress Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband, Keith Urban, just welcomed a new member to their family.
The couple announced the birth of their daughter, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, in a statement Monday.
Faith was born Dec. 28 via a surrogate at the Women's Hospital at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. She is the biological child of Urban and Kidman. The couple, both 43, already have a daughter, 2-year-old Sunday Rose.
"Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret," the couple said in a statement. "No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier."
Kidman and Urban are the latest celebrity couple to turn to surrogacy on the path to parenthood.
On Christmas Day, Elton John and partner David Furnish became fathers to a baby boy.
John, 63, and Furnish, 48, reportedly consulted with another celebrity couple, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, about the joys and pitfalls of surrogacy. Parker, 45, and Broderick, 48, used another woman's womb to carry their twin girls, Marion and Tabitha, born in June 2009.
