Bomb Threat Shuts Down Ohio State University
Nov. 16, 2010— -- Four buildings at Ohio State University were evacuated Tuesday morning after bomb threats were called in to the FBI.
A nearly four-hour police investigation revealed there were no "suspicious packages or devices found," said OSU Police Chief Paul Denton
Campus police were alerted to the threats by the FBI at 8:19 a.m. and evacuated William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library, McPherson Chemical Lab, Smith Laboratory and Scott Laboratory, the university said on its website.
The FBI told ABC News.com it recieved the threat via email to its Washington, D.C. headquarters.
Officials said the buildings would remain closed until 5 p.m. as the investigation continued.
According to the school, some 32,000 text messages were sent to students and faculty warning them to stay clear of the buildings.
Three nearby streets were closed to traffic and residents living along those streets have been evacuated.
The FBI and Columbus Fire Department bomb squad are on the scene, investigating in conjunction with university police.
No injuries have been reported.
The school is expected to hold an 11 a.m. news conference, where authorities will discuss the threat.
