Aug. 24, 2010— -- Paris Hilton awoke early this morning to an unknown man wielding two large knives trying to break into her Los Angeles home, the reality star and heiress said via Twitter.

"So scary, just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes [sic]. Cops are here arresting," she tweeted at 7:19 a.m. PT.

Hilton also tweeted a photo of the suspect, a man in handcuffs with his back to the camera, surrounded by about six cops.

"The security cameras and alarm system were alerted and the police immediately came to the house and arrested the intruder who was attempting to break a window when they arrived. Paris is naturally shaken by the events but is unharmed and well. She is very thankful to her security team and the police for their swift and diligent response," Hilton spokeswoman Dawn Miller said in a statement.

LAPD identified the suspect as Nathan Lee Parada, 31 and said he had been taken into custody around 6:30 a.m.

Parada was charged with felony burglary and bails was set at $50,000.

Police said it was not yet clear if Parada targeted Hilton's house or came upon it randomly.

Hilton, star of the reality shows "Simple Life" and "Paris Hilton's My New BFF," is an heir to the Hilton family hotel fortune and is estimated to be worth about $45 million.

In 2008, burglars made off with $2 million worth of jewelry, cash and clothing from her home in the Hollywood Hills. The suspects in that case were a gang of young people, later nicknamed the "bling ring," who preyed on high-profile young celebrities.

A Hilton stalker was arrested in 2006 after appearing at her father's office carrying a large knife.
