A person allegedly fleeing Immigrations Customs and Enforcement agents was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck in Florida on Tuesday morning, state authorities said.

The incident took place around 6:42 a.m. in St. Augustine when agents from ICE and Homeland Security Investigations, which operates under ICE, encountered a group of people in a car at a parking lot, a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesperson said in a statement.

Four of the vehicle's occupants allegedly fled on foot and one of them allegedly "ran across State Road 16 and into the path of the tractor trailer," FHP said in a statement.

"The pedestrian was struck by the tractor trailer in the right lane and sustained fatal injuries on scene. The tractor trailer immediately stopped and attempted to render aid to the victim," FHP said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing, according to FHP.

In a statement, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said: "On July 14, DHS law enforcement conducted an operation near St. Johns, Florida. Florida Highway Patrol and HSI are investigating an incident resulting in the death of a Mexican national. We will provide an update when available."

The Florida incident happened the same day that ICE began temporarily ending vehicle stops following the deaths of two men who were stopped by ICE in the last week, sources told ABC News.

On July 7, a Mexican national, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was fatally shot by an ICE officer during a traffic stop in Houston. Local elected leaders said Salgado was not the target of the ICE operation.

On Monday, 26-year-old Johan Sebastián Guerrero was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Biddeford, Maine, after agents tried to stop the car he was driving, according to Sen. Angus King, I-Maine.

Guerrero, a Colombian national, was not the target of the operation and ICE agents had been given a final order for another man they were targeting to be removed from the U.S., King told ABC News.

Both ICE-involved shooting incidents are under investigation.
