— -- Violence, including a police-involved shooting, erupted in Ferguson, Missouri, on Sunday night, following peaceful protests marking the anniversary of the death of Michael Brown.

Here is a closer look at the incidents overnight in Ferguson.

Man critically injured in police-involved shooting

Several gunshots were fired Sunday night by at least two people near the protests, the St. Louis County Police Department said.

One of the shooters had started to flee when he was spotted by police in an unmarked car. The detectives activated their lights and drove towards the suspect, and the suspect "immediately turned and began firing" and hit the police car several times, police said.

When the detectives got out of the car, the suspect fired at them, and the officers fired back, police said.

Powerful Scenes From Ferguson, Missouri

A police officer runs to take cover after shots were fired in a police-officer involved shooting in Ferguson, Mo., Aug. 9, 2015.

The suspect fled and led detectives on a foot chase, police said, and the suspect and police then engaged in more gunfire.

The suspect was hit several times and taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

A stolen firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Tyrone Harris, was charged with four counts of assault on law enforcement, five counts of armed criminal action and one count of discharging or shooting a firearm at a motor vehicle.

Two teenagers injured in shooting

Early Monday morning, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old were walking on a sidewalk near the Michael Brown memorial when they were shot at from an unknown car, police said.

The 17-year-old victim suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder and the 19-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. They were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Assault and robbery

Sunday night, several suspects assaulted and robbed a member of the local St. Louis media, police said. The victim was hospitalized. His condition was not released.

Other injuries, arrests and property damage

Demonstrators, marking the one-year anniversary of the shooting of Michael Brown, face off with police during a protest along West Florissant Street in Ferguson, Mo., Aug. 9, 2015.

Three St. Louis County Police Department officers were injured overnight, police said. Two officers were pepper sprayed by protesters while one officer was injured from a thrown rock.

There were four arrests early this morning, police said.

Three police cars were also damaged, police said.

The outbreak of violence came on the anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old unarmed black teen who was shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, on Aug. 9, 2014.

A grand jury did not indict Wilson, who resigned last November. The death of Brown sparked protests and touched off the national "Black Lives Matter" movement.

Earlier Sunday, before the violence, a march was held in Ferguson in Brown's honor.
