— -- Robert Durst has been transferred to a second correctional facility because sheriff's office officials said they were concerned he was a suicide risk.

Durst, who was arrested on Sunday evening and charged with murdering his friend Susan Berman in 2000, was transferred to the Elayn Hunt Correctional facility on Tuesday evening because it is equipped to treat the mentally ill, officials said.

Now the 71-year-old is one of roughly 30 inmates in the facility and they all live in separate cells with 24 hour monitoring by clinicians and psychiatrists.

Prosecutors were the ones to push for the facility switch, saying that he was transferred due to "acute mental health issues."

In court on Tuesday, Durst's legal team said that he suffers from a mild form of Asperger syndrome.

Durst’s lawyers have maintained that he did not kill Berman and have said that they want him extradited to California to face trial, though he may now face additional charges in Louisiana because he was allegedly found in possession of a weapon and marijuana when he was recently arrested.
