Samsung's MyFit MP3 Player Tracks Calories Burned, Consumed

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2010— -- If losing weight and staying fit top your list of resolutions this year, you might want to consider Samsung's newest MP3 player.

The MyFit launched this week in advance of the Consumer Electronics Show and is being touted by Samsung Electronics America Inc. as a "wellness-promoting," portable device.

Like the iPod, Zune and others before it, it's a full-featured portable music player. But with the help of a built-in accelerometer, it also automatically tracks calories burned while jogging and lets users record their caloric consumption per meal.

A special feature also allows users to create playlists specifically for jogging, so that track-skipping can be managed with a simple tap.

If you have bad habits to kick, it also helps you manage your water intake and quit smoking.

But first and foremost, Samsung says, MyFit is a music player. And not only is it equipped to handle a range of audio formats, including MP3, WMA and AAC, it also features an FM tuner. And for people who like to watch videos on the go, it can also play video files in MPG4 and WMV video formats.

The company also announced this week a full color, transparent touch screen MP3 player named the IceTouch. Both were recognized by the Consumer Electronics Association with 2010 CES "Innovations Honoree" awards."

The IceTouch and MyFit will be on display this week at the electronics show in Las Vegas and will hit the stores in the first half of 2010 with 16GB and 8GB storage capacity, respectively.
